Welcome to Westgate Pre-school (Registered charity)
 Westgate Pre-school is located in a secure area of the historic Westgate Primary School site near to the new Children's Centre and offers high quality day care for children of 2 years 9 months to school age.
How it all began…
The Pre-school was born out of the initiative of Pre-school supervisor, Ruth Ive, who has over 20 years' experience in all aspects of early years development. Ruth was very aware of the need for high quality pre-schooling in Warwick and her vision was realised in the form of Westgate Pre-school, where she and her exceptional team of well-trained staff provide the very best early years provision in bright and airy characteristic surroundings.
The Team…
The stimulating environment, which provides day care for 23 children, has proved very popular. Much of this success is undoubtedly due to the excellent quality of childcare provided by the pre-school team. The team has been carefully selected for their enduring commitment and genuine love of working with children and they are encouraged to develop their expertise with extra qualifications and training. All staff share the same aim of providing good quality childcare and education in an environment where children learn through play whilst having fun.
What's on offer…
 The wide curriculum on offer covers the ‘Early Learning Goals’ of the Foundation stages of the National Curriculum, as laid down by Ofsted. The most recent Ofsted inspection was very positive with 'Good' outcomes in every area. Links with
parents were especially praised, and graded as 'Excellent'. Staff make careful
observations of children
and keep good records to ensure children progress at the best pace for them. Parents' evenings are held every term, though of course parents are welcome to come in and discuss their child at any time.
We offer a wide range of extra-curricular
activities. Music is given a high profile and weekly sessions with a specialist teacher are on offer in addition to our daily use of instruments and singing.
We disco dance, have hall time and frequently join
in with school activities. Plenty of school trips are scheduled into the year, both locally and further
afield and parents are encouraged to join us when
ever possible.
 For those children that love all creatures great and
small, we offer a little menagerie of fish, stick insects
and frog spawn to stroke and cuddle! The outdoor area which is currently being refurbished, has a climbing frame, space for sand and water play and plants which the children may help tend! We also have use of the school playground for bikes, cars, balls and hoop, so the children have plenty of space.
The committee
As a non-profit making organisation with charity
status, we are run by a parent-led committee that play an extremely important and active role in our success. Fundraising is a vital feature of maintaining our high standards as well as our low fee levels and the ability to offer extended days during the summer term. All parents are welcome to join the committee and have a voice in the running of the Pre-school.
Onwards and upwards…
When the time comes for your child to leave and move on to school we want them to be confident happy children with a sense of care and consideration for others. Having attended Westgate Pre-school they will have achieved an outstanding educational start ready for the next stage of their young lives. We aim to make transition to school as easy as possible, and parents of children moving on to school have an extra parents' evening to discuss their child's profile which is passed on to their new school.
